Helping women retire with more.

I’m Susan Hope and I believe every woman deserves to feel confident and in control of her financial future . Women still retire with significantly less than men. I want to change that, by making pensions and money easier to understand, easier to talk about and much harder to ignore. More money. More choices. More confidence about what comes next.

Hi I‘m Susan Hope,

I’m a Chartered Financial Planner, speaker and financial services professional with more than 30 years’ experience in the financial services industry, specialising in pensions and retirement and women’s financial futures. I’m a recognised voice on the gender pension gap and the financial challenges that women face throughout their lives, regularly speaking to audiences and contributing to national media, podcasts and industry conversations. My aim is simple, to take complicated financial topics and make them relevant to real life, to help more women understand their money, take action and retire with more.

Well Read: My book club.

Well read is a community of curious women who want to read, think, talk and then make a difference. Every two months we choose a book that challenges the way we see the world, then come together to share ideas, ask challenging questions of ourselves and each other and then turn that learning into action in our daily lives. It’s about turning what we read into ripples of change that make a real difference.

My mission is to bridge the gender pension gap…

What is the gender pension gap?

The gender pension gap is the difference between the amount men and women retire with. It reflects inequalities that can build throughout a woman’s working life, including the gender pay gap, career breaks, caring responsibilities, part time work, divorce, lack of joint financial planning and health issues. The result is that many women reach retirement with less financial security than men.

    Why does it happen?

Pensions tend to reward long uninterrupted careers but that's not how many womens working lives look. The gender pay gap leads to less earnings, less going into pension. Women are more likely to take time out or reduce their hours to have children, known as “The Motherhood Penalty” this affects women’s pay, pensions and career progression.

What can we do about it?

We can’t change every inequality women face (although I would love to) but we can help women understand how the decisions they make throughout their lives can affect their financial future. Talking about pensions earlier, knowing what we have, understanding our options and then making informed choices, can make a huge difference. Small actions today can mean more money and more financial autonomy.
